We typically use three or more dental implants to create a strong foundation for bar-retained dentures. We will need to run a set of metal bars along the gum line between each implant to serve as a base, to which the dentures attach with metal clips. These types of permanent dentures do not rub against the gum tissue or become loose.
These are also known as stud-attached dentures because the dentures are attached to a set of dental implants with a ball and socket mechanism. This type of connection provides a very secure fit for patients who can also benefit from an open palate denture. Patients with these types of dentures enjoy the ability to eat and speak clearly again, and do not have to worry about dentures slipping or shifting.
